camp

It was our last session of "Wee Warhols" at art camp this week. Some of the children have been here all three weeks and I'm really going to miss some off them. This week we made cityscapes out of plaster guaze and colored tape and wood. I was really neat to see them all sitting together; they turned out so bright! We also talked about typography and created silk paintings using wax resist, drawing inspiration from Charles Demuth. The kids' favorite project by far was the robot project. They brought in old metal objects and then swapped with other campers to create their very own robot design. We also wrapped up a collaborative art project this week that spanned the length of two camp sessions. Each child had the chance to brainstorm and glue pieces to a wooden butterfly piece that will be installed outside of the art Association. Other weekly highlights included birthday cupcakes, potato prints, dream playground drawings, marbled pillow cases and many imaginative name tag beards.

Next week is going to be a big shift; we have third, fourth and fifth graders and they are staying all day instead of two sessions of younger children. I'm looking forward to working with them; they are much more focused at that age. As for my weekend, I started it off with a fifteen mile bike ride and then a million hour nap. I'm looking forward to getting ice cream, visiting a tea shop and spending time with my new herb book.

Happy weekend!
