camp

I can't believe that the third week of art camp ended yesterday; the weeks are flying by! The theme of this week was "Create, Celebrate". Each of our projects corresponded with a different culture's celebration, tradition or imagery. The corn husk dolls were probably my favorite activity. The kids really loved shucking the corn, and they were excited to make their own dolls out of such an unusual material. We also got messy with batiks! Instead of wax, we used a kid friendly flour and water mixture and had them pipe on designs through a plastic bag with a hole cut in it.Other fun happenings of the week included Japanese kites, animal masks, tissue paper flowers, maracas, tons of red rover and many treasure hunts for abandoned beads and plastic jewels on the floor of the studio.

Next week is the last week with this age group and I'm looking forward to working with our other camp teacher and meeting new students. As for now, I'll be filling my weekend with outdoor walks, fireworks, gelato, snuggling and a search for the perfect teapot.

Happy Weekend!
