orbit

sterling silver - 1" diameter - 10 mm opal

Last night in my jewelry making class I finished this pendant. I am really enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and freedom of this course; it makes the process less stressful. Opals are made up up deposits of silica spheres that accumulate in fissures of sandstone and a few other kinds of rock. When the light passes through them it is diffracted internally, creating a rainbow of colors.
