fun in the print lab
This week in the lab I experimented with a collograph! My matrix is an old piece of baltic birch plywood I had laying around that I raised the grain on by using a torch. I then drew lines of glue in select places on the wood and let it dry over night. The next day I inked up the block à la poupée intaglio style and ran it through the press. I'm really excited about the results I got and look forward to playing around more with this method.
A couple months ago at school the power kept going out. One morning I was in the printmaking lab when it happened and my professor, Todd Anderson, enthusiastically suggested a 30 minute woodblock session! I didn't get around to printing the block until this week. In an effort to not waste leftover ink from my experimental collograph, I inked up this woodblock intaglio style and then added a white surface roll. Not my favorite color combination, but fun nonetheless.
