wool adventures

My Grandfather made me not one, but TWO of these beautiful spindles. I've been waiting ages to come home and play with them on Spring break and they're absolutely perfect. Recently I visited a shop in Edwardsville called Knit One Weave Too. I'd been avoiding visiting it because of the oodles of money I'd undoubtedly spend, but I just couldn't resist anymore. They have a wonderful selection of yarns and wools. I'd been hoping to take advantage of some much needed free time over break and teach myself how to felt, so I stocked up on supplies! The yarn above was spun from one of the sample packs I purchased there, a beautiful blend of violet and blue.

This was my first (and somewhat humorous) adventure into felting. I rolled the blue wool into a little ball and poked it with the felting needle until the fibers began to grab onto one another, shaping and pulling as I went. Then I wrapped some hand spun pink yarn around the shape and poked at them until their undersides began to intertwine with the blue fibers as well. I then dampened to whole piece and rolled it in between my hands to further secure and smooth out the surface.

Oh, how I've missed having textiles in my life.
