On Friday I started experimenting with the thiox solution on black Rayon fabric. Black is an interesting color to lighten because its initial dye makeup could include many different colors; mine was pretty predictable. I started my session by introducing a new image into my archive: the Stinkhorn mushroom. I've been pretty enraptured with fungus lately; maybe that says something about me.
I printed the Stinkhorn on the black rayon fabric using the thiox solution. Once printed and dried, I hit each of the three you see below with the iron. The one on the far right was heated the longest. The brown areas that you see are where I think I actually started to burn the thiox from too much heat, but I like the end result. I just hope the burnt parts don't flake off in the final wash.
The piece of Rayon that I'm working on is about 3' x 5.5'. I plan on printing solely with the Stinkhorn on this piece and creating a forest of them! Below you can see where I've started using paper masks to block of my first row and to print behind them.
